WALK 4: OXWICH BAY TO PORT EYNON VIA SLADE

 

This is initially more of an inland countryside walk but is close enough to the coast to afford stunning views towards Port Eynon Point before dropping down to the beach at Horton.

Distance: Approximately 3 miles; 4.5 kilometres

Terrain: Easy to moderate, roadway and footpaths, steep in places

Start: Oxwich Cross bus stop; map reference 501865

Bus there: Gower Explorer Service 118 from Swansea City Centre, approximately every two hours Mondays to Saturdays; two journeys per day on Sundays & Bank Holiday Mondays

Walk: Leave the bus at Oxwich Cross and take the minor road up the hill towards Oxwich Castle which you will spot on the left hand side. Follow this road through Oxwich Green and the small settlement of Slade. Shortly after Slade, the road becomes a footpath which stays on high ground before a sharp left turn at Western Slade to take you to the coast. From here to Port Eynon, you have the choice of a footpath slightly inland or a walk along the beach. The walk ends at Port Eynon turning circle (bus stop adjacent).

Facilities: The Ship Inn at Port Eynon serves drinks and bar meals; there is also a café on the sea front and toilets nearby

Bus back: Gower Explorer Service 118 to Swansea City Centre, every hour daytime Mondays to Saturdays; four journeys per day on Sundays & Bank Holiday Mondays

Tickets: A Gower Day Explorer is valid on all services in Gower and on Veolia buses from other parts of Swansea; holders of Welsh concessionary bus passes can travel free!
