WALK 9: LOWER LLIW RESERVOIR TO FELINDRE VILLAGE

 

A fairly easy walk through the stunning mountain and lake scenery that characterises the Mawr north of Swansea.

Distance: 2¼ miles, 3.5 kilometres

Terrain: Easy to moderate on minor roads and footpaths with a short and steep descent at the end; allow 1 hour

Start: Lliw Reservoir access road entrance; map reference 647025

Bus there: Lliw Link 142 from Swansea City Centre and Train Station; departures from Kingsway at 1013, 1137*, 1353 & 1713 Mondays to Saturdays, not Sundays or Bank Holidays * Use Metro service 4 and change at Morriston.

Walk: Alight at the stop at the junction with the Lliw reservoirs access road. From here, follow this road on a gentle downhill grade to the visitor centre (¾ mile – 1.2km). The route crosses over the dam of the Lower Lliw reservoir turning left on the far side after which a footpath follows the contour for about ¾ mile before striking across a field to reach a minor road. Follow this road down hill through the village to a road junction where you will see the bus stop.

Facilities: There is a café and toilets at the Lower Lliw reservoir; in Felindre, the Shepherd’s Country Inn; open lunchtime on Fri and Sat only and the adjacent shop sells cold drinks and snacks at all times (phone ahead to 01792 794715 to order a ‘take away’ tea or coffee)

Bus back: Lliw Link 142 to Swansea Train Station and City Centre; ; frequency four times per day Mondays to Saturdays, not Sundays or Bank Holidays.

Tickets: A First Day Swansea Bay ticket is the best buy; holders of Welsh concessionary bus passes can travel free!
