WALK 6: CILFREW - CADOXTON CRAIG GWLADUS WALK

 

Following the course of an old tramroad used for moving coal, this trail offers a beautiful woodland walk with stunning views across the Vale of Neath.

Distance: 2 miles, 3 kilometres.

Terrain: Level or gently descending path, easy; allow one hour.

Start: Cilfrew March Hywel Bus Terminus; Grid reference SN771005

Bus there: Mondays to Saturdays: First Cymru Service 154 from Neath (connections from Swansea and Port Talbot);  frequency: every hour, daytime. Sundays: First Cymru Service 158 from Swansea and Neath; frequency: every hour daytime.

Walk: Alight at the top March Hywel stop and initially take the minor road to the left for 100 yards/90 metres; the signposted footpath is on the left and you will need to follow this behind the March Hywel estate and then on a level course on the side of Craig Gwladus until you reach a long incline on the left. This, a former tramroad incline, will lead you down to the A4109 road at Cadoxton where you turn right for the short walk to St Catwg’s Church and the Green Dragon pub

Bus back: Mondays to Saturdays: First Cymru Services 154 to Neath (connections  X4 to Port Talbot or X58 to Swansea); frequency: every hour, daytime
Sundays:  First Cymru Service 158 to Neath and Swansea; frequency: every hour, daytime.

Tickets: First Day Swansea Bay tickets are valid from Swansea, Pontardawe and Port Talbot; from Neath, a normal return ticket is cheaper; holders of Welsh concessionary bus passes can travel free!
