Walks in and around the City of Swansea


   



There is a small but surprising variety of walks within a few miles of the city centre. Here is a selection of those easily reached by bus.

Buses: Swansea, Mumbles and Gower


Clyne Valley Country Park Walk: a walk of varying distance on a dedicated walking/cycling trail following the route of the former Central Wales railway line between Mumbles Road and Upper Killay (2mi/3.5km) or Gowerton (5mi/8km). Buses 2/A/B/C or 14 from Swansea Bus Station, alighting at Blackpill Lido; return bus from Killay is 22 or 118; return bus from Gowerton is 15 or 404.

Crymlyn Bog Walk: Crymlyn Bog is the most extensive lowland fen in Wales, a fascinating nature reserve surrounded by a dense industrial landscape. Bus 6 from Swansea Bus Station, alighting at Wern Terrace (½mi/0.8km walk).

Dylan Thomas Uplands: Cwmdonkin Park really is a magical corner of Swansea, an oasis in a busy city. The park is the centrepiece of the walk which also takes in Dylan’s early home and some of the places he frequented as a child or wrote of in his poetry. Buses 20, 21 & 22 from Swansea Bus Station, alighting at Uplands Square (¼mi/0.4km).

Langland and Caswell Bays: a short circular walk easy/moderate taking in both bays and the coastal path between them. Buses 2, 2A or 2C alighting at Caswell Drive, Newton. No service Sundays & BHM.

Penllergare Woodland Walk: two interesting walks in a hidden wonder that is the Penllergare Estate, a romantic and picturesque landscape of woodland and waterfalls. Bus 141 (not Sundays) from Swansea Bus and Train Stations, alighting Penllergaer Council Offices.

Tawe River Navigation Heritage Trail: download a leaflet and discover how the Tawe River navigation helped create “Copperopolis” one of the greatest industrial powerhouses that the World has ever known. Buses 4 (Metro) or 4A to and from the City Centre, Bus and Train Stations, joining (northbound walk) or alighting (southbound walk) at the Liberty Stadium.

Felindre & Lower Lliw Reservoir: a short walk (3mi/5km), easy to moderate in places, through the charming countryside of Swansea’s Mawr district. Bus 142 from Swansea Bus and Train Stations, alighting at Felindre village; no service Sundays & BHM.
